In and Around Folsom – Senior Resources and Fun

The Law Office of Carol A. Fauerbach is located in beautiful Folsom, California — the home of Folsom Lake, the famous Folsom Prison, endless hiking and biking trails, and even a Zoo Sanctuary.  In addition, Folsom and its surrounding areas also feature several resources and activities that assist Seniors in meeting their health, fitness, care and recreational needs.

The Folsom Senior Center invites ages 55+ to drop in from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to enjoy a variety of planned social activities. They offer weekly activities in the lounge, Senior support services, special events, exercise and fitness classes, educational workshops, and enrichment and art programs.

Meals on Wheels of Sacramento County delivers meals to Folsom residents 60 years of age or older, who are homebound and unable to prepare nutritious meals.  Along with meal delivery, Meals on Wheels also provides an opportunity for friendly visits and status checks.

Cummings Family Park features a dog park section, where Seniors can go out for a walk with their canine companions.  The park also hosts a BMX jump park, and a skate park, which can be exciting for participants and spectators alike. And it still has room for all the usual park delights.

Nimbus Fish Hatchery raises Chinook salmon and steelhead for release to the American River. The Nimbus Hatchery Visitor Center offers free fun and educational activities, perfect for a day out with a grandchild. Enjoy the on-site nature trail along the American River to view wildlife, as well as the American River Parkway trail directly adjacent to the Nimbus Hatchery.

Jensen Botanical Garden is one of the jewels of Carmichael, located just outside of Folsom.  The whole family can meander through a breathtaking collection of Magnolias, Azaleas, Dogwoods and Japanese Maples, as well as thousands of Tulips. Jensen Botanical Garden also features the Nature Path for the Blind.  The visually impaired, as well as those with other physical challenges, are invited to explore the pathway by feeling the different textures and experiencing the unique fragrances of the various plants.

El Dorado Hills Community Services District Senior Center is located in Folsom’s “sister city,” and offers a wide array of fun and social activities for Seniors, including Senior aquatics, Senior sports, special events, and even “virtual” recreation like online yoga and indoor walking classes, as well as virtual tours of State Parks, zoos, aquariums and other interesting spaces.

Eldercare.acl.gov is a helpful website provided as a public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging.  Whis website provides an Eldercare Locator to connect older adults and their families with services in and around the Folsom area.  This website also provides a link to a Caregiver Corner, providing useful links and resources for caregivers.

Aging.ca.gov is a helpful website that provides resources for seniors across California, including in the Folsom area.

Volunteering is also a great way for Seniors to interact with their peers and community.  Seniors are welcome to volunteer at many of the places that serve them, including the Folsom Senior Center and Meals on Wheels, creating a unique opportunity for Seniors to meet their peers.

And, finally, what list would be complete without Senior Discounts? At Seniorliving.org, you’ll find a one-stop shop offering discounts to hundreds of retailers, restaurants, travel companies and other stores, both local and nationwide.
